Free SAT Practice Test

A full-length, adaptive Digital SAT with a score report that names every mistake.

Start Practice Test 1

In short

  • Practice Test 1 is free: 98 questions in 2 hours 14 minutes, with the same two sections and four modules as the real SAT.
  • The second module of each section gets harder or easier depending on how you did on the first, as on test day.
  • It runs in your browser with the Bluebook tools: Desmos, the reference sheet, a highlighter, an answer eliminator and a timer you can hide.
  • When you finish, you get a score out of 1600 and every missed question matched to the mistake behind it.

What is on the test

The same order and timing as College Board's Digital SAT.

Craft and Structure

The novelist Chinua Achebe once said of the Nigerian village in his fiction that it was not, as some critics claimed, a "symbol of the past." It was, he insisted, a working society — one that could evaluate itself, argue with itself, and change — and any reading that treated it as frozen missed what he had tried to write.

Which choice best describes Achebe's primary objection to the critical reading he mentions?

Information and Ideas

A marine biologist hypothesizes that the declining size of Atlantic cod in the Gulf of Maine is not primarily the result of overfishing but of selective pressure: because commercial trawlers target larger fish, the cod that evade capture and go on to reproduce tend to be smaller, and their offspring smaller still. To support this hypothesis, the biologist would most need to show ____

Which choice most logically completes the text?

Standard English Conventions

The committee's final recommendation was shaped by three considerations ____ feasibility, cost, and long-term maintenance.

Which choice completes the text so that it conforms to the conventions of Standard English?

Expression of Ideas

The Voyager 1 spacecraft, launched in 1977, carries a gold-plated record engraved with sounds and images meant to represent Earth to any intelligence that might find it. ____ NASA engineers selected 116 images, 55 greetings in different languages, and music ranging from Beethoven to Chuck Berry.

Which choice completes the text with the most logical transition?

Algebra

In the xy-plane, line ℓ passes through the points (−4, 1) and (2, −5). Line m is perpendicular to ℓ. What is the slope of line m?

Advanced Math

The equation 2x² + 6x + c = 0, where c is a constant, has no real solutions. Which of the following could be the value of c?

Problem-Solving and Data Analysis

The data set {12, 15, 18, 21, 29} has median 18 and mean 19. If the value 29 is replaced by the value 24, which of the following correctly describes the effect on the median and the mean?

Geometry and Trigonometry

A circle has radius 9. A central angle of the circle measures 80°. What is the length of the arc that the central angle intercepts?

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free SAT practice test?

Yes. Rivie's Practice Test 1 is a free, full-length Digital SAT: 98 questions, adaptive like the real test, with a score report when you finish. You need a free account and no credit card. The free plan also includes 100 practice questions a week. College Board also publishes free official practice tests in its Bluebook app.

How long is a full SAT practice test?

2 hours and 14 minutes of testing, plus a 10-minute break between the sections. Reading and Writing is two 32-minute modules of 27 questions each, and Math is two 35-minute modules of 22 questions each, 98 questions in all. A full practice test should be taken in one sitting with the same timing.

Is Rivie's practice test adaptive like the real SAT?

Yes. As on the real Digital SAT, how you do on the first module of each section decides whether the second module is the easier or the harder one, and the harder route can reach the higher scores. You also get the tools Bluebook gives you: the Desmos graphing calculator, the math reference sheet, a highlighter, an answer eliminator and a timer you can hide.

How is the practice test scored?

Rivie gives a scaled score from 400 to 1600, with a score for each section. College Board's own scoring model is not public, so every non-official practice test estimates the scaled score. Rivie's estimate weights harder questions more and follows which second module you were routed to, and the report says it is an estimate.

Should I also take College Board's official practice tests?

Yes. College Board's tests in the Bluebook app are free and written by the people who write the SAT, so they are the most accurate practice there is, but there are only a few of them. Most students use them as checkpoints and use Rivie's ten practice tests for the rest, because Rivie's report matches every missed question to the mistake behind it.

How many SAT practice tests should I take?

Most students need 6 to 12 full-length practice tests: about 6 to 8 for a 1200 to 1400 goal, 8 to 10 for 1400 to 1500, and 10 to 12 for 1500 and up. Reviewing each test matters more than the count. Spend at least two hours going over your mistakes before taking the next one.
